UMM HOSTS 30TH ANNUAL JAZZ FEST

The Jazz Ensembles at the University of Minnesota, Morris hosted the 30th annual Jazz Fest April 3-5, 2008. Several hundred area high school jazz musicians joined UMM and alumni jazzers, along with two guest artists, during the three-day event. Daytime instructional clinics paired high school students with guest artists, trumpeter Byron Stripling and saxophonist Eric Marienthal. The event was capped by public performances, featuring Stripling and Marienthal, each evening in Edson Auditorium on the UMM campus.

MORRIS SCHOOL BAND PLAYS AT MMEA

The Morris Area High School 8th grade band, under the direction of Dot Vick, performed and participated in a clinic at the annual Minnesota Music Educator's convention on Feb. 14, 2008. The band performed "Storm Chaser", a composition written for them by Dr. Elaine Ross, a faculty member of the music department at the University of Minnesota, Morris. The clinic portion of the performance covered rehearsing a middle school band by Dr. John Ross, director of bands at Appalachia State University, writing music for a band of that age by Elaine Ross, and commissioning music for public school bands by Ms Vick.
